This trip was organized by Warren NC. 43 people from Warren, 30 adults and 13 children, went for this 1-day trip to Desaru on 19 Jul 08. The coach pickup point was just outside Warren lobby, very convenient. We left Warren at about 8:30am on the Sat morning. There was a jam near the 2nd Link. However, we entertained ourselves, singing karoake in the coach. By the time we reached Desaru for lunch (has baby lobsters for lunch), it was already close to 1pm.

After lunch, our first destination was to a biscuit making shop. Then we dropped by a mango farm and bought some mangoes. Next we visited an ostrich farm. There are many ostriches there, ranging from 1 day old to 7 years old. The ostrich farm people told us that ostriches can live to 60 years old, and they change feathers ever 6 to 9 months. As we know, ostrich egg is the biggest egg. It is equivalent to 30-40 chicken eggs.

We were stranded in the farm for about half an hour due to the rain (rainy day on this day). Thank goodness it stopped and we managed to complete the rest of our trip without much hiccup.

Next highlight was the Desaru fruit farm. It is a big farm (200 soccer fields size) with many kinds of trees, like durian tree, mango tree, dragon fruit tree and many others. There is a mini animal farm there as well. Inside has chickens, owls, rabbits, goats, moneys and ostriches. Even a koi pond there.

Final destination was a boat ride at Kota Tinggi to watch fireflies. We were lucky that there was no queue for the boat ride. When we got back from the boat ride, the queue was snake long and even started to drizzle. Due to the limited capacity in one boat, Chew Hoe and Ming Liang took a larger boat while Ming Xuan and I took a smaller boat. We came very close to the fireflies. One of our passengers even managed to catch one firefly and showed it around. The sight of fireflies on the trees was just like a blinking Christmas tree.

The trip back home was quite smooth. No jam. By the time the bus dropped us off at Warren, it was 10:40pm. You can say it’s like send us back home almost to our doorstep.

This was definitely an enjoyable and good learning journey for the whole family.
