Today, all of us from the AMD Chartered Foundry Project gave Song Dan a farewell lunch treat. She will go back to China tomorrow. We went to Katong Five Star Chicken Rice Restaurant. Interestingly, Five Star Chicken Rice is one of the contenders of the on-going Chicken Rice competition organized by OMY.
In the morning, we left for Malacca. From KL to Malacca, the bus ride took about 2 hours. Not too bad.
The first place we visited was the Maritime Museum.
Then we wallked along Jonker Street. In the afternoon, there is not too much activity. I guess it only comes to life in the night.
The train arrived KL on time.No delay..thank goodness.
First very important thing we did was to buy our bus tickets to Malacca from Transnasional in Puduraya Bus Station. After that we then checked in to our hotel Ancasa which is located just next to the bus station.
We met SG around 10:30am and he brought us around KL.
Mainly we went to Low Yat Plaza to look for computer stuff. Then we went KLCC and visited the Discovery Center (all for Ming Liang’s sake). We later went up to the skybridge in Petronas Twin Towers. The last time we went KL we missed this chance. The view from skybridge is quite good.
In the nite, we had dinner and did shopping in Chinatown.
We left for our Malaysia trip on Fri 13/6/08 night. This time we took an overnight train to KL.This is the first train ride for the 2 boys. They are having some fun on the bunk beds.
Actually the train ride was rather bumpy. Most of us did not get much sleep. Ming Xuan was the only one who could sleep like a log.
Also this trip we went with LS and YS. We would tour KL together with SG as our host. After that, we went to Malacca while LS & YS went to Genting.
This morning, I participated in the veteran category (> 40 years old) of the Saab City Duathlon 2008.
The race consists of 10 km run + 40km biking + 5km run, and supposedly it was to start at 7:30am. However, I needed to be there earlier because both my bike tyres were flat, and I hoped there was a bike service station at the race place to pump my tyres. It was rather tough for me to wake up so early because I went to bed around 2am after fixing some website issues. I only had a light sleep because my mind was too active. Nevertheless, I managed to wake up around 5am. Poor Soik Ching also woke up the same time since she was my chauffeur. Read more »
We visited the Water:H2O=Life exhibition at Singapore Science Center today. From the brochure, we get to know that this exhibition originated from the American Museum of Natural History. We are very fortunate to have a nice and pleasant teenage girl to be our exhibition guide. It certainly makes a difference for us as we know and understand more.
The exhibition covers a few items. One item is a showcase of species living in the iciest and wettest places in the world, and how climate change has affected these species. One species is the polar bears with thick fur to warm themselves. Another one is the emperor penguins. We were told that the specimen were real penguins being preserved. We also learned an interesting fact that camels do not store their water on the humps. The humps of the camels are actually heap of fats. The teenage guide told us the water is actually stored in their spongy jaws. But when ask Yahoo, it claims that water is actually stored in the stomach. Hmm…??
One interesting exhibit is the display of a lake which shows life above water and under water. It shows the life beneath the lake can be quite different from the above. Was impressed by how the exhibit was done up.
I participated in the first night marathon in Singapore. I completed the race about 4 hrs and 30mins. Although I was tired, I wasn’t too sleepy during the run. The run was relatively less torturing than the day marathon, probably due to the cool night air. But I felt there were too many bridges to cross in the route.
